More fine structure constant …

Songaila & Cowie have a paper out today on astro ph in which they agree with everything I concluded about the alleged fine structure constant in my past two papers—in particular, the likelihood of systematic biases in the instrumentation being to blame.  But did they cite my work?  No, of course, not … story of my life!

So, mixed emotions: happy to see some (rather limited) evidence in support of my earlier findings, but unhappy to see two senior astronomers unable to perform a simple ADS search prior to writing their manuscript (or else just deliberately ignoring me for some reason).

In other news, some more motivation for our WGC tutorial on Generalized Linear Models: an example of binomial data begging for a logistic regression analysis in this contribution from Fogarty et al. (their Fig 9).
